Where can first time performers share their work in front of a supportive audience? Where can established writers and musicians try out something new? The answer to both these questions is The Pot Luck Club.
The name and format of this new event comes from hours of debate between Jen, Sandy and Elaine over food and wine. Here’s the format: it’s an invite only, free to enter evening of live performances by up and coming as well as established writers and musicians.
The aim of The Pot Luck Club (PLC) is to support first time performers with pre-performance mentoring from Elaine as well as push established performers out of their comfort zone. Examples include poets jamming with musicians and musicians sharing their unpublished poems. The invite-only rule is not intentionally exclusive but rather it means the hand-picked audience will be supportive of all performers.
The first PLC took place in the Low Lights Tavern in North Shields on Wednesday 25th January. Performers included Ken Creen, James Tucker, Alli Davies and Sandy Chadwin plus host, Jennifer C Wilson.
Our second PLC took place on Thursday 21st September in Newcastle’s Old George Inn Performers included Vicky Arthurs, Penny Blackburn, Lesley Chatten, Rowland Hill, Ross Punton, Jane Roberts plus music from Gill and Mick of The Cornshacks.
Our third took place on Thursday 22nd March in the Old George with Harry Gallagher headlining.
